Job summary

Pine Street Inn Inc. is seeking an Awake Overnight Residential Counselor to ensure the safety and well-being of residents at their Boston facility. This role includes assisting tenants with daily activities and offering supportive services in a trauma-informed manner. The ideal candidate has experience with complex disabilities and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals, aiding their integration into the community.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience with individuals with complex disabilities.
  • Some basic prior human services training required.
  • Experience with ADL skills and maintaining a safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support tenants in Activities of Daily Living during overnight hours.

Job description

Days/Hours: 40 hours, Mon-Fri, 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.

Pays: $21.40 per hour DOE, plus $2.00 (shift differential pay) for every hour worked between 11:00 pm – 7:00 am

Location: 41 New Chardon Street, Boston, MA

Summary of the Position:

The Awake Overnight Residential Counselor is responsible for the overall safety of tenants at the 34 New Chardon Street residence, part of the Behavioral Health Division of Pine Street Inn. This program provides permanent housing to formerly homeless women using a Housing First/Stabilization model. The program serves women from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. The mission is to offer trauma-informed, gender-sensitive, and gender-specific support services to help tenants heal, reintegrate into the community, and break the cycle of homelessness. The counselor will assist tenants with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in the early morning hours, fostering a respectful atmosphere that empowers very chronically mentally ill tenants to reach their highest potential.

Requirements

Education/Training:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Some basic prior human services training

Preferred:

  • Advanced training in human services work
  • Experience with a Housing First/Stabilization Model

Knowledge/Experience:

  • At least one (1) year experience working with individuals with complex disabilities in a shelter, community residence, or inpatient setting
  • Experience maintaining a safe environment for clients
  • Understanding of rehabilitation and consumer empowerment concepts
  • Knowledge of mental illness and dual diagnosis individuals
  • Experience assisting with ADL skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred:

  • Experience with Housing First/Stabilization models
  • Experience working with the homeless population
  • Experience with dual diagnosis and untreated mental illness
