Job summary

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) seeks a seasoned professional to report to the VP, Capital Programs. You will direct systems engineering, project development, design, and construction activities for rail and streetcar assets, including vehicles, signals, traction power, and fare collection.

You will lead staff, supervise consultants, manage project budgets and schedules, ensure compliance with DART standards, and coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Finance, and other departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture or related field.
• Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in managing engineering and/or construction projects and contracts. Transit experience is preferred.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred for this position to apply prudent engineering principals and standards within management portfolio.
• Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
• Knowledge of budget development/analysis, and operational control.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and secures approval of goals and policies for systems engineering and streetcar projects with broad latitude for decision-making.
• Submits recommendations to the VP, Capital Programs, for approval and/or Board of Director action.
• Manages assigned projects. Oversee and instruct consultants and contractors on assigned projects. Monitors performance of work to ensure compliance with DART Standards.
• Oversees the State of Good Repair Program and Asset Management Division within the department.
• Directs department staffing requirements, succession planning, and staff performance management program; mentors junior staff.
• Develops, submits for approval, and monitors section operating budget; prepares reports for executive and senior management review.
