Job summary

Dallas Area Rapid Transit Inc is seeking an AVP – Chief Engineer to provide strategic leadership for major capital projects and MOW across DART corridors. You will manage staff, consultants, and contractors, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence while coordinating with federal and state agencies and freight railroads.

The role requires a BS in structural/civil engineering, 6+ years of responsible project management, and PE preference.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, construction, and maintenance of way (MOW) activities.
• Experience directing staff, consultants, or contractors on major projects.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
• Knowledge of FRA/FTA regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive leadership over engineering, design, construction, and maintenance activities across DART corridors.
• Oversees complex, high-value infrastructure programs and contracts (track, bridges, signals, facilities).
• Develops engineering standards and procedures in line with AREMA, FRA, FTA.
• Directs contractors, consultants, and internal staff on inspections, design, construction, and system upgrades.
• Prepares reports for executive leadership and boards on project status and resource needs.
