Job summary

Golden Bear Insurance Company is seeking an experienced AVP – Southern Territory, Primary Casualty Underwriting Manager and Team Lead. You will oversee a team of underwriters, drive profitability, and expand the book of business in the Southern Territory.

The role requires strong leadership in E&S primary casualty underwriting and a robust broker network. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in E&S underwriting, with 5+ years in leadership, and a track record of coaching teams and negotiating

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of E&S commercial primary casualty underwriting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Strong expertise in general liability, products liability, and other primary casualty coverages for high-hazard risks.
• Established network of wholesale brokers in the Southern Territory.
• Proven experience coaching and developing underwriting teams.
• Strong risk assessment, pricing, and negotiation skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or related field; CPCU, CIC or other designations are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage a team of primary casualty underwriters, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives.
• Develop and execute underwriting strategies to grow and maintain a profitable book of business in the Southern Territory.
• Cultivate and strengthen relationships with wholesale brokers, fostering long-term partnerships and driving new business opportunities.
• Evaluate complex risks, set pricing strategies, and ensure appropriate risk selection in accordance with company guidelines.
• Mentor and train underwriters, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments to identify new opportunities and emerging risks.
• Work closely with senior leadership to optimize underwriting processes, improve efficiency, and enhance service standards.
