Job Description Summary

Our work is essential to helping Nationwide build future capability to serve customer needs. As the AVP, you'll establish, sell and execute the strategic direction for the designated Life product line. You'll be responsible for product and strategy execution including product launches, product revisions and product innovations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and deliver product strategy, design, and development for the designated Life Product Line.
  • Lead research, development, and competitive intelligence to stay ahead of industry trends and market challenges.
  • Develop and maintain sales report analysis and gather customer insights through networks of product experts and influencers.
  • Identify and analyze new market opportunities and drive innovation to differentiate products.
  • Oversee the development, launch, and lifecycle management of products, ensuring alignment with growth and profitability goals.
  • Facilitate client understanding of product options and work with the Product Risk Committee for design and pricing approval.
  • Participate in pricing, monitor product performance, and understand market and client needs.
  • Partner with sales and finance for product development requirements.
  • Lead all aspects of product and service delivery, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform periodic analysis of in-force business to maintain profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage resource plans and budgets for the product line.
  • Lead a team of associates, fostering engagement and managing performance, development, and organizational planning.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in business or related field; MBA preferred.

License/Certification: Insurance and professional designations such as Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter, CPCU, actuarial designations (FSA, MAAA), or project management certifications.

Experience: 7-10 years in life insurance product/business development with demonstrated leadership.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Strong technical and industry knowledge, relationship-building and influencing skills, strategic thinking, excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership capabilities, and the ability to work independently on complex issues.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies, and experiences, may take precedence. Staffing exceptions require approval.
