Job summary

Radiant Credit Union in Gainesville, FL seeks an AVP of Credit to lead underwriting across consumer, real estate, indirect, and business lending, with a focus on AI-enabled decisions and risk governance.

You will develop policy, mentor teams, and partner with IT, Risk & Compliance to ensure compliant, efficient credit decisions that serve members and the organization’s strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum three years of similar or related experience.
  • Proficiency in credit underwriting systems, Microsoft Office, and data analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of credit analysis, underwriting, and loan portfolio management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Consumer, Real Estate, Indirect, and Business underwriting operations.
  • Align underwriting strategies with goals and deliver portfolio insights.
  • Lead AI underwriting program governance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with NCUA, CFPB, and state/federal requirements.
  • Develop staff with training on underwriting policies and AI-assisted tools.

Position Purpose

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Credit provides leadership and oversight of the Credit Union’s underwriting operations across Consumer, Real Estate, Indirect, and Business lending. The AVP ensures sound, consistent credit decisions aligned with risk appetite, policies, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.

The AVP leads and develops the underwriting team, supports lending policy development, and promotes a culture of accountability, professional growth, service excellence, and prudent risk management.

The AVP also provides leadership for the Credit Union’s AI underwriting program, including governance, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of AI and automated decisioning technologies. This includes partnering with Lending, Risk & Compliance, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure AI-enabled solutions improve efficiency, consistency, and member experience while maintaining transparency, explainability, data integrity, human oversight, and regulatory compliance.

Underwriting Operations
  • Manages Consumer, Real Estate, Indirect, and Business underwriting operations, including production, workload management, quality, and efficiency.
  • Aligns underwriting strategies with organizational goals and provide insights on portfolio performance, product development, pricing, and credit policy.
  • Leverages data and technology to improve underwriting consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Provides leadership with the AI underwriting program, including system integration, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluates emerging AI technologies and automated decisioning practices to ensure alignment with business objectives and risk appetite.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensures compliance with NCUA, CFPB, Fair Lending, federal and state requirements, and Credit Union policies.
  • Updates underwriting procedures and policies as regulations and lending programs evolve.
  • Establishes appropriate controls for AI-enabled underwriting, including fair lending, model risk, data governance, privacy, compliance, and operational risk.
  • Monitors AI and automated decisioning for disparate impact, data issues, unintended outcomes, and performance changes.
  • Participates in audits, addresses findings, and implements corrective actions.
  • Tracks and reports underwriting policy exceptions
Leadership & Staff Development
  • Leads, coaches, and develops underwriting staff while establishing clear goals, expectations, and performance standards.
  • Recruits, trains, and evaluates staff to ensure compliance, productivity, service excellence, and professional growth.
  • Develops and delivers training on underwriting policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Builds staff capabilities in AI-assisted underwriting, including appropriate use, review, challenge, and override of AI-generated recommendations.
  • Promotes a culture where technology supports—not replaces—sound underwriting judgment and human oversight.
Member & Internal Support
  • Reviews and resolves member escalations related to credit decisions, ensuring timely, effective resolutions that align with established policies, regulatory requirements, and member service standards.
  • Provides guidance on complex or escalated decisions involving automated or AI-assisted underwriting.
Business Lending Support
  • Participates in the weekly Business Loan Committee.
  • Provides guidance on credit risk, loan structures, and policy adherence to support sound lending decisions.
Other Duties
  • Performs other duties assigned by the VP of Credit in support of the Credit Union’s underwriting and lending operations.
Education

(1) A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or (2) or a minimum of a high school diploma with seven (7) years of directly related professional experience in lieu of a degree
