Venerable seeks an AVP, Managing Actuary to provide robust actuarial analysis and strategic insights. You will collaborate with the Strategy team and Finance functions to support decisions on in-force management, new business opportunities, and capital projections.

This role emphasizes mentoring, senior leadership presentations, and process improvements, with a strong VM-21/capital modeling background and advanced programming skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance or related field.
• FSA or Career ASA certification.
• 10+ years in financial, insurance, or actuarial roles.
• Strong understanding of modeling and ability to challenge approaches.
• Excellent communication across varied audiences.

As an AVP, Managing Actuary, you will play an important role in projects aligned with Venerable’s strategic priorities and growth drivers. The role reports to VP, Head of Inforce Management and Strategy and collaborates with peers within the Strategy team, other Finance teams, including Capital Management and Modeling, Assumptions, and Valuation, as well as across Risk, Investments and Corporate Development functions, to provide robust actuarial analysis and business insights to aid strategic decisions.Primary Responsibilities will generally include the following:Create analysis related to block management actions including policyholder offerings, assumptions, investments, funds, and new business flow. The role collaborates with members of various teams to build or enhance ad-hoc analysis and key reporting metrics, to drive sound decisions.Contributes to due diligence of new deal opportunities for both in force and flow (new business) opportunities. This may include analysis such as evaluation of product features, modeling, data analytics, assumptions analysis, hedge modeling, and various other aspects of VM21 reserving.Support Actuarial Function with researching regulatory changes impacting Variable Annuity Reserves and Capital e.g. VM-21, Risk Based Capital, and any other related changes initiated by the NAIC.Support Actuarial Function with researching enhancements to capital and earnings projections and related business models. Some examples may include, improving scenario or other computation reduction techniques, enhancing projection of items such as investment income and hedge gains and losses.Support Actuarial Function with process efficiency initiatives including idea generation, outlining road map, execution and documentation. This may involve working across Finance, Risk, and IT teams.While an individual contributor focuses on technical analysis, the role will routinely work with peers, senior management, and junior staff across various teams. The role offers tremendous potential to create impact not only through application of subject matter expertise and business acumen but also by mentoring junior staff on highly technical topics.Adopts proactive and strategic approaches to enhance the quality and accuracy of deliverables.Leverages specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise to solve business problemsTakes full accountability and responsibility for execution of high-quality deliverables and ultimately responsible for the performance and results.Commonly interfaces with senior or executive leadership on presentation and messaging of results; May interface directly with investors.Communicates with multiple stakeholders both within and outside of Venerable such as with counterparties, auditors, actuarial outsourcing partners or other vendorsKey Qualifications:Bachelors’ degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance or related business disciplineFSA or Career ASA10+ years financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experienceAbility to focus on “big picture” view while driving into detailsAbility to understand modeling nuances and challenge modeling approaches.Ability to appropriately and professionally communicate complex concepts across multiple and varied audiences with the appropriate detail for the audience.Strong software skills such as VBA, Python, R, SQL, Power BI, comfortable using AIAs an individual contributor, you will be expected to work collaboratively with your peers.Strong presentation skills including to executive level.
