Qualifications

  • Master's degree required; Ph.D./J.D. preferred.
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience in a research-intensive environment.
  • Minimum ten years in technology transfer, IP management, startup development, business development, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of building strategic partnerships across academia, research, and industry.
  • Experience interfacing with external funding agencies (federal agencies).
  • Strong negotiation skills with successful agreement structuring.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.
  • Proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders and align goals.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple high-priority initiatives with accuracy and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization aligned with research and economic development priorities.
  • Develop and communicate vision, goals, and measurable outcomes for commercialization, licensing, and partnerships.
  • Identify trends in innovation, IP, venture creation, and federal commercialization to inform strategy.
  • Supervise staff responsible for technology transfer, incubation, and entrepreneurship programs; oversee operations and budgets.
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty, industry, investors, and government partners to accelerate translation and commercialization.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across faculty and students.
  • Facilitate partnerships linking faculty expertise to market opportunities through SBIR/STTR and other funding.
  • Support startup creation and growth via commercialization services, mentorship, and proof-of-concept programs.
  • Manage IP strategy, invention disclosures, patent portfolios, licensing, and related activities.
  • Negotiate and administer IP-related agreements while ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee university incubation programs to support emerging companies and regional growth.
  • Represent the university with economic development organizations and advisory boards.
