Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Inland Marine & Property Underwriter to lead a team of underwriters across the Midwest. The role involves owning growth, developing broker relationships, and guiding pricing decisions in a hybrid work model with in-office and remote days.

Ideal candidates have a strong inland marine and property underwriting background, leadership experience, and the ability to expand the book while aligning with company strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field.
• 9+ years inland marine and/or property underwriting experience.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and guiding underwriters.
• Strong understanding of inland marine and property products, pricing, and market dynamics.
• Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Own and grow a profitable inland marine and property book across the Midwest.
• Build and strengthen broker relationships to drive new business.
• Evaluate risks, pricing, and coverage structures with judgment.
• Analyze submissions and loss history to inform underwriting decisions.
• Set pricing aligned with risk and company strategy.
• Structure deals using deductibles, coverage features, or reinsurance as needed.
• Interpret policies for brokers and internal partners including claims questions.
• Meet with distribution partners at least 5 times per month.
• Other duties as needed.
