Job summary

Eli Lilly and Company in San Diego is seeking a senior leader to define and execute the design validation and learning strategy for de novo biologics design. You will build a multidisciplinary team spanning model evaluation, experimental learning, and data science to turn computational predictions into actionable insights.

This founding leadership role requires a PhD with 5+ years post-PhD or equivalent, proven people management, and strong Python/statistics skills to advance platform

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in computational biology, biophysics, computational chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, physics, statistics, or related STEM field with 5+ years post-Ph.D. research experience (or MS with 10+ years).
• 3+ years of experience leading scientists or engineers as a formal people manager, including building or scaling a team.
• Experience leading validation of ML or physics-based predictions against experimental measurements in drug discovery or related field.

Responsibilities

• Define the scientific strategy for evaluation, validation, and learning.
• Define and establish rigorous benchmarks and validation standards.
• Establish a closed computational-experimental learning system.
• Set the role of physics-based approaches in the design stack.
• Active learning and proprietary data strategy.

• Establish platform-wide success metrics.
