Arch in Morristown/Jersey City, NJ is seeking an AVP, Claims-TCO to lead strategy and resolution of complex, high-exposure matters across General Liability, Auto, and other lines.

Reporting to the CTCO, you will steer litigation with counsel, negotiate settlements, and elevate best practices while partnering with Claims, Underwriting, Legal and the Technical Claims Office. Hybrid role with travel opportunities.

Qualifications

  • J.D. required with 10+ years in complex coverage, high-exposure claims and coverage litigation.
  • Proven ability to partner with claim executives and senior stakeholders.
  • Executive communication, negotiation and leadership in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster licenses.
  • Hybrid role with travel as needed.

In short, We Enable PossibilitySM.**Position Overview**Reporting to the Chief Technical Claim Officer (CTCO), this role is a collaboratory leader of the strategy and resolution of the organization’s most complex, high-exposure claim matters—spanning sophisticated complex disputes, multi-district litigation, class actions, declaratory judgment actions, and suits against the Company.You will be a visible advisor to senior leadership and a go-to technical resource for the broader claims organization—driving outcomes, and elevating best practices across lines including General Liability, Business Auto, Excess/Umbrella, Inland Marine, and Professional Liability (including Programs and Middle Markets).**Primary Responsibilities*** Lead end-to-end strategy for complex coverage issues and litigation matters, including investigation, exposure assessment, reserve adequacy, and resolution planning.* Drive litigation management with internal and external counsel, including mediations and trials as needed; negotiate complex settlements that balance risk and business objectives.* Prepare executive-level reporting and lead discussions with senior leadership, customers, and key stakeholders on high-profile matters, trends, and emerging case law.* Serve as a technical leader—staying current on commercial insurance laws and regulations and ensuring alignment with company guidelines and fair claim practices.* Lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives sponsored by the CTCO/Chief Claims Officer to strengthen complex-claims capability and operating discipline.* Partner with Claims, Underwriting, Legal, and the broader Technical Claims Office to align priorities, deliverables, and decision frameworks.* Develop and deliver targeted technical training and coaching to strengthen coverage and complex-claims capability.**Qualifications (What You Bring)*** J.D. required.* 10+ years of experience as an attorney and/or claims professional with deep expertise in complex coverage issues, high-exposure claims, and coverage litigation.* Proven ability to partner with and influence claim executives and senior stakeholders.* Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with sound judgment and strong prioritization.* Executive-level communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across insureds, brokers, counsel, and internal business partners.* Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster licenses.* Self-directed, highly accountable, and able to deliver under pressure.* Strong analytical skills—able to synthesize complex facts and present crisp recommendations.* Deep knowledge of claim handling guidelines, best practices, and fair claim practices across jurisdictions and lines.* Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, organization, and time-management skills.* Collaborative, with the ability to work independently and lead through influence.* Ability to work well independently and in a team environment* Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and analytics/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).* Hybrid role; preferred locations include Morristown/Jersey City, NJ or Long Island/NY offices (flexibility considered).* Availability for business travel as needed.#LI\_SW1#LI\_HYBRIDFor individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.$145,000 - $190,000/year * Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.
