Job summary

Salem State University is hiring an Assistant Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer (AVP, CHRO) to lead the HR function with strategic vision and strong collaboration across campus. The role focuses on culture, change, policy development, and program innovation to advance the university’s mission.

As AVP, CHRO you will drive an inclusive, high-performing environment; manage collective bargaining agreements; oversee recruitment, compensation, performance management, and staff development;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
• Ten years of HR experience with increasing responsibility.
• Experience managing HR staff.
• Experience managing budgets.
• Three years of labor/employee relations experience (preferred).
• Experience in higher education or similarly complex organization (preferred).
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills (preferred).
• Knowledge of Massachusetts laws, systems, and policies (preferred).
• Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills; ability to prioritize and solve complex problems (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across all aspects of the HR function.
• Oversee labor relations and administration of collective bargaining agreements; support the President/Provost in MSCA bargaining.
• Promote a high-performing, inclusive culture and employee engagement; implement innovative HR programs.
