Job summary

Acrisure Re is seeking an AVP, Actuarial in New York to price reinsurance contracts and provide ongoing support through the lifecycle. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related STEM field.
  • 4+ years actuarial experience, preferably in a reinsurance pricing capacity.
  • ACAS or near-ACAS designation, with active progression toward FCAS.
  • Actively maintains Continuing Education requirements and familiarity with AI/LLM tools.
  • Understanding of pricing, reserving, and capital models for (re)insurance products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pricing analyses for proportional, excess of loss, and structured reinsurance deals.
  • Develop dynamic stochastic models and compare reinsurance strategies and pricing.
  • Communicate results and complex concepts to clients, reinsurers, and brokers.

About the Role:

The Assistant Vice President, Actuarial prices reinsurance contracts across varying insurance coverages and products and provides clients and brokers with continuous support throughout the (re)insurance lifecycle. Building on a solid actuarial foundation, the AVP is developing expertise in one or more niche areas and begins to input into Acrisure Re's actuarial standards and toolset. This is an individual-contributor role in which the AVP also mentors and supports the development of more junior analysts. Clients include growing numbers of traditional carriers and MGAs, single-state and regional mutuals, innovative Insurtechs, and multi-national specialty carriers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform pricing analyses for proportional, excess of loss, and structured reinsurance deals using actuarially sound assumptions.
  • Develop dynamic stochastic models and perform reinsurance analyses to evaluate and compare different reinsurance strategies and pricing to meet client objectives.
  • Communicate analysis results and complex technical concepts related to (re)insurers, capital markets, and clients.
  • Support brokers in creating reinsurance submissions, pricing, structuring, and placing reinsurance, and evaluating new opportunities or partnerships.
  • Provide input and support actuarial team members to respond to technical queries from clients, reinsurers, and brokers regarding data, trends, or results from actuarial and industry studies.
  • Follow best practices within a specialist area; support on enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of analytical tools and follow Acrisure Re actuarial standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to internal research, development projects, whitepapers, and working groups.
  • Produces clear exhibits and visuals to lead discussion of key broking points. Verbal and written communication is clear and appropriate to the audience.
Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related STEM field.
  • 4+ years of actuarial experience, preferably in a reinsurance pricing capacity
  • ACAS or near-ACAS designation, with active progression toward FCAS.
  • Actively maintains relevant Continuing Education requirements.
  • Understanding of commercial, personal, cyber, and specialty lines (re)insurance products.
  • Understanding of standardized (re)insurance pricing and reserving methodologies for property, casualty, specialty, and cyber coverages.
  • Understanding of capital models and associated parameterization of pricing and reserve risk.
  • Understanding of catastrophe models (RMS, AIR, KatRisk, etc.), including their output and associated pricing approaches.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with R preferred. Familiarity with SQL, Python, and VBA languages an advantage.
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM tools to support coding, analysis, research, and documentation.
  • Willingness to attend external forums and conferences and to develop relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Domestic and overseas business travel may be required.
Additional Requirements and Competencies:
  • Strong working knowledge of all actuarial tools and techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving, numerical, and critical-thinking skills demonstrated in daily work.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and contribute as part of a dynamic team; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to complete detailed analyses with very little oversight, including keeping a clear audit trail.
  • Good understanding of the techniques and assumptions used in analysis and their relevance; draws conclusions from output and articulates the advantages and disadvantages of different structures.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills - keeps on top of their workload and ensures that everyone is up to date on where tasks under their responsibility stand.
  • Good internal & external communicator with the ability to articulate complex concepts. Thinks on their feet and can respond appropriately in meetings, while seeking guidance as appropriate.
  • Ability to create a comprehensive timeline and plan for actuarial support on a given deal and supports junior team members development.
  • Applies AI and automation tools efficiently and exercises sound judgment on where they are and are not appropriate; models responsible, compliant use for more junior staff.
  • Operate effectively across functional boundaries, building and sustaining internal relationships.
  • Mentor junior team members, supporting professional growth and skill development.
