Job summary

PartnerRe in the US life market seeks a senior actuary to lead analytics, assumptions, and model development for accelerated underwriting programs. You will partner with pricing actuaries, underwriters, and a global data science team to evolve mortality assumptions and data-driven risk selection.

You will drive governance, documentation, and monitoring while mentoring junior staff and aligning with regulatory expectations. Strong collaboration and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in US life insurance or reinsurance.
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling concepts and AI tools.
  • Awareness of trends in automated/accelerated life underwriting.
  • Familiarity with life pricing, product development, or reinsurance analytics.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management; able to present to actuarial and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and advanced Excel.
  • Hands-on experience with R, Python, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of mortality and risk-assumption methodologies for accelerated underwriting programs.
  • Evaluate third-party data sources and predictive models for assumption setting and monitoring.
  • Ensure models reflect pricing guidelines, best practices, and regulatory expectations.
  • Advise pricing actuaries, underwriters, and clients on external scores and underwriting data usage.
  • Lead projects to design, calibrate, and optimize dynamic underwriting programs.
  • Present technical insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide SME on underwriting, mortality modeling, and data quality.
  • Lead governance, documentation, and monitoring of underwriting programs.
  • Oversee and mentor junior team members; foster collaboration.

Job Description

PartnerRe is investing to further expand its presence in the US life market. This position is responsible for leading advanced research, analytics, and actuarial support for accelerated and automated underwriting programs. The role will partner closely with clients, pricing actuaries, underwriters, and a global data science team to develop and enhance mortality assumptions, assess emerging data sources, and support innovation in risk selection.

This role reports to the VP, Actuarial Innovation, US Life.

About The Role

Analytics, Assumptions, and Model Development

  • Lead the development of industry‑leading mortality and risk‑selection assumption methodologies for accelerated and automated underwriting programs.
  • Evaluate 3rd‑party data sources and predictive models, determining appropriate actuarial and analytical approaches to assumption setting and monitoring.
  • Ensure that analytical models and assumptions reflect pricing guidelines, best practices, and regulatory expectations.

Client & Internal Collaboration

  • Advise pricing actuaries, underwriters, and clients on the use of external scores, tools, and underwriting data in product and reinsurance structures.
  • Lead projects with clients to design, calibrate, and optimize dynamic underwriting programs.
  • Present technical insights and findings to internal stakeholders, clients, and industry audiences as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Client Partners and pricing teams to support opportunity evaluation and broader client strategy.

Research & Innovation Leadership

  • Provide subject matter expertise on underwriting, mortality modeling, and data quality.
  • Identify and research emerging trends in automated and accelerated underwriting and develop recommendations for strategic adoption and market positioning.

Governance, Documentation & Monitoring

  • Develop and maintain documentation to support internal peer review and governance.
  • Lead the monitoring frameworks for ongoing performance evaluation of underwriting programs, scores, and models.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Oversee and review the work of junior team members, providing technical coaching and guidance.
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and strong analytical standards across the AUW & Pricing function.
Work Experience and Qualifications

You are a technically strong individual with demonstrated analytical capability, communication skills, and the ability to build strong partnerships across technical and non‑technical functions.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in US life insurance or reinsurance.
  • Understanding of predictive modeling concepts, emerging AI agentic tools, and machine‑learning approaches.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of trends in automated and accelerated life underwriting.
  • Familiarity with life pricing, product development, or reinsurance analytics.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder‑management skills, with experience presenting technical material to both actuarial and non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel.
  • Hands‑on experience with R, Python, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI is preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or related discipline.
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
