Job summary

Rocket Lab’s Space Systems team seeks an Avionics Test Engineer I to design, test, and integrate electrical systems for space missions from our Long Beach HQ. You’ll build test plans, run acceptance and proto-flight tests, and develop automated test platforms for high-reliability hardware.

You’ll also help optimize testability and manufacturability while contributing to process improvements. The role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering, hardware/test experience, and US citizenship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline is required.
• Experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering is required.
• Understanding of electrical test equipment, test procedures, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation is required.
• US citizenship is required due to program requirements.
• Master’s or PhD in engineering is a plus.
• Programming experience in Python is desirable.
• Experience in environmental design testing (vibration, shock, thermal, TVAC) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop test plans and programs in support of space flight hardware and systems development.
• Manage and conduct Acceptance, Qualification and Proto-Flight test programs.
• Develop automated test hardware and test platforms in support of test programs.
• Support the design and development of space flight hardware to improve testability and manufacturability.
• Support analysis of COTS component test levels against mission environmental requirements.
• Contribute to development of engineering and business processes to support Rocket Lab growth.
• Contribute to engineering best practices such as test, design for manufacture and change management.
