Position Overview
The Avionics Technician III is responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing avionics equipment and systems for aerospace vehicles. This advanced role involves performing equipment setup and maintenance activities, utilizing precision measurement tools, fabricating fixtures, and executing precision cleaning and chemistry processes. The technician must also apply and maintain best shop practices, including 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness, while ensuring all hardware is correctly packaged and handled. Collaboration with team members and adherence to project timelines are essential for high‑quality workmanship and successful mission outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, adjust, and repair avionics equipment and systems.
- Perform equipment setup and maintenance activities for non‑flight parts with standard alloys and simple geometry.
- Use precision measurement tools to fabricate fixtures and perform precision cleaning and chemistry processes.
- Demonstrate correct packaging and handling of all hardware.
- Apply 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness in daily tasks.
- Collaborate with team members to uphold high‑quality workmanship and meet project timelines.
- Document and report any issues or discrepancies identified during inspections and tests.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience or formal training, degree, or certification.
- Familiarity with general best shop practices, PPE, and shop‑safety requirements.
- Basic equipment setup and maintenance skills with mechanical aptitude and hand‑tool competency.
- Ability to use precision measurement tools and fabricate fixtures for use.
- Knowledge of precision cleaning and chemistry processes.
- Understanding of 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness.
- Experience demonstrating correct packaging and handling of hardware.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training, degree, or certification in avionics, electronics, or a related technical field.
- Airman’s certificate, FCC license, or IPC level certification.
- Experience with avionics systems and equipment, including navigation, communication, and flight‑control systems.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with avionics testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators.
- Knowledge of software tools for diagnostics and troubleshooting of avionics systems.
- Understanding of RF (radio frequency) principles and their application in avionics.
- Experience with soldering and crimping techniques for avionics wiring and connectors.
- Strong problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Compensation
Pay Range: $29.46 – $40.52 hourly. Actual base compensation will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, education, experience, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
