Position Summary

The Avionics Technician is responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and installation of avionics equipment on a wide variety of airframes in Apex Aviation’s FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment. This role requires advanced knowledge of avionics systems, test equipment, schematics, and maintenance practices. The technician must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and company procedures. By maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service, the Avionics Technician supports Apex Aviation’s reputation as a premier aircraft maintenance provider.

Primary Job Functions
  • Report on time and ready for assigned shift.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain avionics systems on Part 91 and Part 135 aircraft, including small experimental, light sport, piston, helicopter, turboprop, very light jet, and commuter‑class aircraft.
  • Utilize test equipment (e.g., IFR-4000, IFR-6000, Air Data Test Set) for functional and operational checks.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer manuals to ensure accurate work.
  • Perform RVSM, pitot/static, and transponder system testing in compliance with FAA standards.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in accordance with FAA Part 145 Repair Station requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to FAA regulations, OEM guidance, and Apex Aviation procedures.
  • Operate maintenance tracking software (e.g., Corridor) for recording work orders, logbooks, and reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, following OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support aircraft service needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Provide professional communication and customer service during interactions with clients and vendors.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Electrical schematics, avionics architecture, and industry‑standard troubleshooting techniques.
  • FAA Part 145 Repair Station requirements and related documentation practices.
  • Use and operation of avionics test equipment and software‑based diagnostic tools.
ABILITY TO / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualify for an FAA Repairman Certificate (per FAA 14 CFR 65).
  • Perform troubleshooting, programming, repair, and testing of avionics systems.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Operate computer‑based maintenance tracking systems and software.
  • Follow all departmental and FAA safety rules and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
QULIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Minimum of 3 years of general aviation and/or corporate avionics experience in a Part 145 environment (required).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Garmin systems or comparable avionics.
  • Experience with GPS/Nav/Com, Audio, Autopilots, EFIS/PFD/MFD/Displays, ELT, Instruments/Gyros, Radar, Datalink/Weather, Traffic, and Terrain systems.
  • Experience with altitude reporting systems and RVSM checks.
  • Strong computer skills; ability to use maintenance tracking software.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding work (standing, kneeling, bending).
  • Previous experience with avionics installation, programming, and repair across multiple airframes (preferred).
  • Ownership of general hand tools (specialized and calibrated tools provided by company).
  • Professional, detail‑oriented, and quality‑focused mindset.
  • Team‑oriented with strong collaboration and customer service skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Standing, kneeling, and bending (continuous); lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (frequent); reaching, holding, pushing, and pulling; use of sight, hearing, and speech.

Working Conditions: Work performed indoors and outdoors in hangar and flight line environments; exposure to seasonal outdoor temperatures, aircraft noise, dust, and aviation chemicals; PPE required (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes/boots, etc.). Compliance with FAA/DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements is mandatory.
