SpaceX is seeking a Manager, Mechanical Engineering (Starship Avionics) to lead a team that designs and qualifes high‑reliability avionics hardware for Starship. You will drive design trade studies, ensure manufacturability, and partner with cross‑functional teams across production to meet ambitious schedules.

Based in Starbase, TX, this role emphasizes ownership, fast decision-making, and rigorous engineering discipline, including GD&T, FEA, and hands‑on support of manufacturing issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, science, or math discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience with mechanical design of components or assemblies.
  • 3+ years of experience as leader with direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Own avionics engineers to enable rapid design, integration, test, and launch.
  • Drive conceptual design, architecture trades, and sizing.
  • Optimize development speed, mass, and cost.
  • Perform first principles analysis and FEA.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturing and drive first article builds.
  • Support production issues and drive improvements for efficiency and rate.
  • Design and execute development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
  • Drive delivery timeline through conception to launch.
  • Collaborate with analysts on thermal, vibration, and loading requirements; work with manufacturing to optimize manufacturability.
  • Hire and develop a team to produce reliable, high-rate avionics hardware.
