Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state is seeking an Avionics Cable Harness Design Engineer to design and install electrical harnesses for spaceflight systems. You will work on power distribution, RF and high-speed data harnesses, selecting components and ensuring EMI/RFI compliance.

The role requires Creo/CAD proficiency, 2+ years in aerospace harness design, and U.S. citizenship or equivalent status. Expect collaboration across engineering teams and opportunities to influence the avionics strategy.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical or an appropriate engineering field
  • 2+ years of experience designing Wire Harnesses for the Aerospace industry
  • Understanding and application of wire derating analysis
  • Familiar with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
  • Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Experience with CREO Schematics and/or Piping.
  • Experience with Creo and Windchill and Routed System Designer (RSD)
  • Experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing
  • Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes.
  • Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, and installation of electrical harnesses for various spaceflight systems.
  • Lead and influence the avionics overall harness strategy.
  • Design of electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication and high-speed data signals.
  • Select harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cables and wires.
  • Apply EMI/RFI and harness shielding principles.
  • Create 3D routed harness data files using Creo Cabling and Routed System Designer (RSD).
  • Create harness detail and installation drawings from 3D data (2D flat drawings).
  • Design and integrate harness support brackets; develop support configurations and conduct trade studies.
  • Provide technical guidance for hardware installation; support assembly and testing of cables and harnesses.
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status; identify opportunities for cost and schedule savings.
