Job summary

Zipline is seeking a Field Systems Engineering intern to work on real-world avionics challenges in the field. You will analyze telemetry data, test hardware, and collaborate with engineers and operations to understand how systems perform outside the lab.

You’ll have a mentor, own a project, and present findings that inform engineering decisions; in-person role at the South San Francisco office. Open to students pursuing EE/CS/Robotics with AI tool experience.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace, robotics, or computer science.
• Hands-on projects involving hardware or software.
• Ability to analyze data or logs using Python, SQL, MATLAB, or a similar tool.
• Clear communication and willingness to learn from engineers, technicians, and operators.
• Proficiency and comfort with using AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Investigate avionics issues using telemetry, logs, physical inspection, and bench tests.
• Analyze fleet data to identify patterns in system performance and reliability.
• Build or improve scripts, dashboards, or diagnostic tools that aid issue detection.
• Help design and run tests to check potential failure causes and fixes.
• Collaborate with design engineers, technicians, and operators to understand system behavior.
• Document methods, results, and recommendations for action.
