Job summary

E‑Space in Saratoga, CA seeks an Avionics Engineering Lead to guide hardware and FPGA firmware development for satellite systems. Based in Saratoga, you will manage a team of Electrical and FPGA engineers and drive high‑reliability design for space environments.

You will oversee testing, design reviews, and performance evaluations, while mentoring team members and refining engineering standards to meet challenging requirements.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in new electronics product development, including flight in aerospace.
  • 5+ years of Electrical Engineering management with teams of 6+.
  • Experience with space environments, radiation mitigation, and high reliability electronics.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Lead 8+ engineers through design, test, and delivery of avionics hardware.
  • Plan and track engineering tasks and report status to leadership.
  • Uphold department standards and best practices for quality and reliability.
  • Mentor teammates and conduct performance reviews.

Job description

Avionics Engineering Lead – Role Overview

E‑Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper‑scaled IoT solutions. The Avionics Engineering Lead will oversee the development, test, and delivery of electronic hardware and FPGA firmware for E‑Space satellites. The role reports to the Director of Electrical Engineering and is based in Saratoga, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the day‑to‑day execution of engineering work by 8+ Electrical and FPGA engineers to shepherd the team through development, test, and delivery of their products.
  • Plan and track engineering tasks, communicating status of team products up the chain.
  • Ensure Avionics department standards and best practices are employed by the team to quickly deliver high quality products that meet requirements, refining standards as lessons are learned.
  • Provide tools and resources needed by the team to perform their work.
  • Participate in technical tasks including design reviews, troubleshooting, and surge engineering efforts when needed.
  • Help teammates develop their skills and careers in alignment with their interests and the company’s objectives.
  • Perform performance evaluations and conduct regular one‑on‑ones with reporting teammates.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Electrical Engineering management experience with teams of 6+.
  • 10+ years of experience in new electronics product development, test, and flight in aerospace applications.
  • Expertise in power, digital, and analog circuit design, simulation, analysis, and testing.
  • Expertise in high reliability electronics and FPGA development and test practices.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience with antenna design and wireless RF links.
  • Experience designing for space environments, including radiation impacts and mitigation.
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer.
  • FPGA design skills.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or Python.
Compensation

Full‑time, exempt position. Target base pay is $150,000 – $220,000 annually. Total compensation will be determined by experience, knowledge, and skills.
