Job summary

Intuitive Machines seeks an experienced Avionics Engineer to join the Test Engineering team in Houston, TX. You will drive avionics test campaigns, from assembly through functional, TVAC, vibe, and thermal testing, coordinating with systems, mechanical, propulsion, and software engineers to define requirements and resolve issues.

The role requires 3–5 years in avionics or 10+ years without a degree, strong problem solving, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related electro‑mechanical field.
• 3–5 years avionics engineering experience; 10+ years if no degree.
• Experience with cross-functional teams (Propulsion, Mechanisms, Thermal).
• Proven avionics system design, flight harness design, analysis, testing.
• Familiarity with space/ aerospace standards and regulations.
• Strong problem solving and attention to detail.
• Effective collaboration and multi‑project management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Uphold integrity during testing and serve as the responsible engineer for externally developed avionics boxes when assigned.
• Support system‑level testing and validation to verify functionality and reliability under varying conditions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and compliance records.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Avionics Engineer to join our Avionics team as a Test Engineer. This role will usher COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) and custom PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board Assemblies) and boxes through the development and flight testing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have experience in design or testing of electrical and/or electro-mechanical hardware.

Responsibilities:

• Support mission avionics test campaigns from assembly through functional, TVAC, vibe, and thermal testing, including documenting issues, summarizing results, and providing feedback for future design and test improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, mechanical engineering, propulsion, and software engineering, to define avionics test requirements and specifications.
• Lead or support test plan development, test execution, anomaly analysis, and root‑cause investigations, communicating findings promptly and clearly to stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional reviews to analyze test data, isolate anomalies, and drive electrical, mechanical, or software issues to root-cause closure.
• Maintain transparent communication throughout test campaigns and special projects, supporting requests tied to mission goals and contributing wherever needed.
• Uphold integrity during testing, openly reporting failures or issues, and serve as the responsible engineer for externally developed avionics boxes when assigned.
• Support system-level testing and validation to verify the functionality and reliability of avionics systems under various operating conditions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and compliance records

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related Electro-Mechanical field.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in avionics engineering, preferably in the space or aerospace industry.
• 10+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
• Experience in working with cross functional teams such as Propulsion, Mechanisms, and Thermal.
• Proven experience with avionics system design, flight harness design, analysis, and testing for space or flight vehicles.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for space and aerospace applications.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
