Job summary

Hermeus Corporation seeks an Avionics Engineering Intern to shape the future of commercial supersonic/hypersonic flight. You will help design, test, and integrate GNC systems, electrical hardware, control software, and RF comms.

The 16-week fall internship (August–December) offers hands-on hardware work, collaboration across software, electrical, and mechanical teams, and exposure to cutting-edge aviation technology at Hermeus.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a technical degree in a related field.
• Entry-level experience with C/C++ and embedded systems.
• Experience with hardware integrations and embedded computers.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and teamwork.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; GPA 3.0+ required.

Responsibilities

• Test subsystems physically and validate performance vs requirements.
• Create and maintain wire diagrams for subsystem integration.
• Set up hardware in lab environments for testing and validation.
• Perform end-to-end subsystem testing across hardware and software.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, and mechanical teams to resolve issues.
• Document test results, procedures, and configurations.
• Design and test custom electrical systems for ground and flight use.
• Ensure proper integration at subsystem and system levels.

About The Role:

As an Avionics Engineering Intern you will help shape the future of commercial supersonic and hypersonic flight. Our team is responsible for the design, testing, and integration of GNC systems, electrical hardware, control software, power distribution, and RF communications.

Fall: Around 16 weeks (August - December)

Responsibilities:

• Conduct physical testing of subsystems and validate performance against requirements
• Develop and maintain detailed wire diagrams for subsystem integration
• Set up and configure hardware in lab environments for testing and validation
• Perform end-to-end subsystem testing, ensuring full integration of electrical, hardware, and software components
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, electrical, and mechanical engineering) to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues
• Document test results, integration procedures, and system configurations
• You'll take charge of designing and testing custom electrical systems for both ground test and flight applications.
• You will ensure the seamless integration and compatibility of your designs at the sub-system and integrated system level.

Requirements:

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Entry level experience of C++, C, or other embedded programming languages.
• Experience with working with hardware integrations and embedded computers (Raspberry PIs, arduinos, STM32s).
• Strong understanding of engineering first principles
• Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
• Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• GPA of 3.0 or above

$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
