Job summary

Hermeus Corporation in Atlanta, GA is seeking a student intern to help develop software for the Quarterhorse unmanned aircraft. You'll use C++ and web tech (TypeScript/JavaScript) to build control systems and intuitive interfaces for remotely piloted and autonomous flight modes.

You'll collaborate with flight crews and engineers across the software lifecycle, gain hands-on experience in HMI design, graphics, and aviation simulation, and contribute to a fast-paced defense tech program.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in accredited college or university
  • GPA of 3.0+ or higher
  • Pursuing Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering or related degrees
  • Web applications experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks (React, Angular, Electron)
  • C/C++ experience and aviation/simulation exposure
  • Computer Graphics coursework or experience
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate effectively

Responsibilities

  • Develop HMI software for flight crew and simulations
  • Collaborate on cockpit software usability with engineers and pilots
  • Collaborate with engineers to display and control hardware systems
  • Participate in all stages of the software lifecycle from planning to testing and documentation

Job description

We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role:

Join our team developing cutting-edge software for the Quarterhorse supersonic unmanned aircraft. You'll work with C++ and web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript) to build control systems for both remotely piloted (HOTAS) and autonomous flight modes. This role includes designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces, ranging from hands-on control to point-and-click autonomy management.

Responsibilities:
  • Software development on the human-machine interaction (HMI) program used by flight crew to control the aircraft and run simulations
  • Collaborate with flight crew to develop and assess usability of the cockpit software and hardware
  • Collaborate with engineers to display and control hardware systems
  • Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle including planning, design, implementation, review, testing, documentation, and user evaluation
Requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (Undergraduate student (at least a rising senior) or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program)
  • Pursuing Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related degrees
  • Web Applications Experience (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Electron, etc.)
  • C/C++ Experience
  • Aviation/simulation experience
  • Computer Graphics coursework or experience
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrated knowledge or interest in aerospace industry (aviation or rocketry clubs, pilot license, DCS Ace, etc.)
  • Experience working on 2D or 3D games or simulations
  • Cesium experience
  • User Interface (UI) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) classes
  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems) experience (Cesium, ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, Mapbox, Google/Apple Mapsetc.)

$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
