Job summary

Vast is developing next-generation space stations and infrastructure from Long Beach, CA. The Build Reliability Engineer (Avionics) will ensure the reliability and flight-readiness of avionics hardware across the product lifecycle, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and mission assurance teams.

The role is full-time, exempt, and based at the Long Beach location, with travel and outside-hours support as needed. A strong engineering background and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, design, quality, reliability, or related roles.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own Build Reliability for avionics hardware and work centers, setting expectations for reliability, manufacturability, and build and flight readiness.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Mission Assurance leadership to ensure robust, scalable quality and verification plans across the product lifecycle.
• Define readiness criteria, process qualification, manufacturability, and inspectability; retire build risks during ramp-up.
• Mature internal avionics production processes; ensure documentation, tooling, data collection, and training support.
• Ensure off-nominal work is documented; drive risk mitigations and recovery plans for severe issues.
• Collect and analyze build data; lead build quality reviews and data-driven recommendations.
• Lead containment and root-cause investigations; implement robust corrective actions across Vast.
• Drive cost-of-quality reductions through streamlined standards and controls.
