Job summary

JOB SUMMARY

The AVID Tutor supports student learning by providing academic assistance, guidance, and encouragement in a structured setting. The tutor assists individuals and small groups with lesson assignments, homework, and study skills to reinforce classroom instruction and promote student success. The AVID Tutor plays a key role in fostering a positive, safe, and supportive environment that encourages student growth and achievement.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, work as part of a team, work with frequent interruptions, and prioritize
  • Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with students, supervisors, co-workers, parents, and other district employees
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior tutoring experience in K-12 setting
  • Fluency in another language other than English
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present and reinforce learning concepts
  • Assist with homework assignments and make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the instructional process
  • Guide students in independent study (e.g., enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) to ensure student success
  • Monitors individuals and groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, library, college visits, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying, attendance, etc.) to support the teacher and administrator in providing record and materials
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
