Job summary

Kansas City Aviation Center Inc is seeking a Safety Coordinator to administer KCAC’s SMS and EHS programs. You will promote a proactive safety culture, manage hazard reporting, and support leadership with safety data and corrective actions.

The role covers aviation operations across Part 135 Charter, Part 145 Maintenance, Avionics, Line Service, Parts and admin functions, with work conducted in hangars, ramps, and offices. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in aviation operations, maintenance, or safety programs.
• Experience in EHS / OSHA safety programs.
• Familiarity with FAA SMS principles.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain KCAC’s SMS program
• Facilitate hazard identification, reporting, and risk management processes
• Receive, review, and evaluate employee hazard reports and recommend mitigation actions
• Monitor SMS performance and prepare safety reports and trend analysis for leadership
• Maintain SMS documentation as a controlled system and ensure accuracy
• Support development of safety goals and objectives for leadership
• Oversee workplace safety programs in compliance with OSHA and company policies
• Monitor and address facility-related safety concerns (slips, trips, lighting, equipment, etc.)
• Support injury reporting, workers’ compensation coordination, and incident documentation
• Promote safe practices in hangars, ramps, and office environments
• Lead or assist in incident and accident investigations
• Identify root causes and contributing factors
• Develop, recommend, and track corrective actions
• Evaluate safety risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
• Maintain safety reporting systems and records
• Analyze safety data, trends, and recurring issues
• Provide regular safety performance reports to leadership
• Track corrective actions to completion
• Coordinate and monitor safety training programs across departments
• Ensure training content remains current and compliant
• Conduct safety meetings, briefings, and communications
• Promote employee participation in safety reporting
• Maintain and update SMS manuals, procedures, and documentation
• Support Emergency Response Program development and execution
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, vendors, and insurance carriers
• Monitor industry safety trends and assess impact on KCAC operations
• Work closely with Maintenance, Charter, Line Service, Avionics, Parts, and HR
• Serve as a safety resource to managers and employees
• Start and support Safety Committee activities and reporting
