Job summary

San Diego Gas & Electric is seeking a Helicopter Hoist Operator to support inspections, maintenance access, and restoration events by coordinating flights and hoist operations.

The role requires frequent driving to meetings and sites, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with operational priorities. You will work with cross-functional teams and external partners to sustain rapid, coordinated response during incidents.

Responsibilities

• Schedules flights, equipment maintenance, and crew assignments, ensuring alignment with priorities.
• Oversees flight departures/arrivals and resolves issues to maintain operations.
• Integrate with Human External Cargo teams as a hoist operator.
• Coordinates travel documentation and ground transportation to support travel.
• Ensures adherence to regulations and safety standards; may hold certifications.
• Collaborates with internal/external partners for coordinated operations.
• Identifies opportunities to improve processes and team performance.
• Coordinates with emergency and storm response teams for rapid deployment.
• Performs first-level review of operational risks and recommends mitigations.
• Extensive driving to meetings and sites; safety and traffic compliance required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Primary Purpose

Leads small improvements in scheduling, documentation, and ground logistics to enhance availability for inspections, maintenance access, and restoration events via helicopter.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Schedules flights, equipment maintenance, and crew assignments, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and timelines.
• Oversees flight departures and arrivals, addressing and resolving issues to maintain smooth and timely operations.
• Integrate with Human External Cargo teams as a hoist operator.
• Resolves onboard supply needs, travel documentation, and ground transportation to support a seamless travel experience.
• Ensures adherence to applicable regulations and standards; may hold relevant certifications and serve as a resource on compliance matters.
• Collaborates with internal teams and external partners to support efficient and coordinated operations.
• Identifies and implements opportunities to improve processes, contributing to overall operational effectiveness and team performance.
• Coordinates with emergency and storm response teams to position aircraft, crews, and supplies for rapid deployment.
• Performs first‑level review of operational risks and recommends mitigations for weather, terrain, or work‑area constraints.
• Frequent, independent driving to meetings, company locations, field locations and/or active incidents sites while maintaining a focus on safety and compliance with traffic laws is essential to this position and cannot reasonably be accomplished via alternative transportation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
