The Michigan State Police is seeking an Aviation Manager to oversee the Air Transport Unit, ensuring safety in aviation operations. Candidates should have extensive experience in aviation management and hold necessary pilot certifications. This role offers the opportunity to impact statewide aviation policies and practices positively.
This position serves as a first-line professional manager of professional positions in a complex and functions as a manager of the Air Transport Unit within the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), which includes units or programs related to flight and aircraft maintenance operations, aviation safety and education, and statewide aircraft registration. This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Transportation regulations.
The salary listed reflects the range from the minimum to the maximum rate of the Aviation Manager 14 position.

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience: Five years of professional experience in aviation-related roles such as aviation specialist, airplane pilot, air traffic controller, certified flight instructor, airport manager, or aviation consultant. Alternatively, experience equivalent to aviation safety, training, education, inspection, or airport planning can be considered. Specific experience levels are also detailed, including timeframes for roles at different professional levels.
Additional experience as a certified flight instructor, airport manager, aviation consultant, airplane pilot, or air traffic controller may substitute for the educational requirement.
