Job summary

Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis seeks a full-time Aviation Maintenance Instructor to teach FAA-approved Part 147 courses and mentor students.

The ideal candidate has an A&P license, 5+ years of aviation maintenance experience, and strong knowledge of light and mid-sized piston and turbine engines. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred; collaboration with FAA and program assessment is expected.

  • Must possess an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • General aviation maintenance experience required.
  • A history of working cohesively with the FAA is required.
  • Extensive general aviation knowledge of light and mid-sized piston and turbine engines.

Responsibilities

  • Teach FAA-approved Part 147 Aviation Maintenance courses.

Role Summary

The Aviation Maintenance Instructor is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track professional staff position with teaching responsibilities in Aviation Maintenance. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in our FAA-approved Part 147 program at the VU Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis. The instructor must have extensive general aviation knowledge and a demeanor that fosters a good learning environment for both traditional and non-traditional students.

Responsibilities
  • Instruction & Program Support:
    • Teach courses in the FAA-approved Part 147 Aviation Maintenance program.
    • Provide academic instruction, ensuring course content meets FAA and departmental standards.
    • Maintain a demeanor that fosters a good learning environment for both traditional and non-traditional students.
    • Develop and update syllabi for courses as needed.
    • Use a variety of proven methods of engagement and assessment that facilitate student mastery of course content.
    • Provide students with constructive and corrective feedback.
    • Evaluate student learning by creating and applying course competencies and accurately evaluating student progress.
    • Participate in program assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Administrative & Student Support:
    • Advise students on course selection, academic performance, and career paths.
    • Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and other required university activities.
    • Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for assignments, announcements, grades, and feedback.
    • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications

Essential:

  • Licensure: Must possess an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience: General aviation maintenance experience is required.
  • Compliance: A history of working cohesively and cooperatively with the FAA is required.
  • Knowledge: Extensive general aviation knowledge of light and mid-sized piston and turbine engine aircraft.
Supplemental Skills / Experience (Preferred):
  • An Associate Degree and/or Bachelor Degree is preferred.
