Job summary

Colorado Department of Public Safety seeks an Aviation Specialist to lead DFPC helicopter module operations within its Districts. You will supervise crews, coordinate aviation resources, and ensure compliance with NWCG standards while partnering with local agencies and state leadership.

The role requires strong leadership, planning, and interagency collaboration, with a focus on safety, readiness, and mission support for wildfire response and preparedness across Colorado.

Qualifications

• Eight years of professional fire aviation or wildland fire management experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Minimum NWCG qualifications: HMGB or higher or ICT3/DIVS/TFLD equivalents.
• Bachelor's degree plus related experience can substitute for NWCG requirements.
• Proven supervisory experience and strong communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Directs aviation programs within assigned District(s).
• Acts as SME for aviation programs and coordinates with agencies.
• Maintains situational awareness of fire conditions and readiness across regions.
• Leads and supervises Helicopter Modules and related personnel.
• Ensures training, safety, and compliance with NWCG standards.
