Woolpert is seeking a Civil Engineering student for an Aviation Design Internship in Indianapolis, IN. The position offers real-world project involvement across multiple aviation domains including taxiways, airports, and runways, in a full-time 40-hour weekly schedule.

You will work with the aviation market on planning, design, and construction tasks, supporting task leads on FAA and DOT projects and coordinating with internal and external teams.

Join us for an internship experience that offers real-world project involvement within a supportive environment alongside ample opportunities for professional and personal growth. This internship will be a full-time position working 40 hours a week. Your work will take place Monday-Friday during standard working hours (9am-5pm). The Aviation Design Intern will work alongside the Woolpert aviation teams working on a variety of projects across the Aviation spectrum including projects in taxiways, airports, hangars, runways and more. Work can include several disciplines across a variety of clients and project types.

This internship has a portion of work onsite/in-office. Woolpert does not provide housing or relocation for internships/co-ops. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do

At this time, we are seeking Civil Engineering students for our Indianapolis, IN office for the summer semester (May-August). This internship will be a full-time position working 40 hours a week. The Aviation Design Intern will work alongside the Woolpert aviation market working on planning, design, and construction projects as well as supporting our task leads. Work will be on projects for the FAA, DOTs, airports, and partner consultants and include the following:

  • Collaborate and participate on multi-disciplinary teams of various skills and experience across all the project phases from programming, planning, grant administration, conceptual/preliminary design, detailed design, construction.
  • Ensure deliverables and Woolpert quality standards are met per the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate routinely with Manager and Leadership to advise and address circumstances related to client satisfaction, changes of scope, risk management, schedule, and financial performance.
  • Work as part of the Civil design team on a wide range of projects focused on airport infrastructure design, aviation research, and airport planning projects.
  • Gain real‑world experience working on actual projects alongside licensed professionals that are experts in their fields.
  • Assist on a variety of projects doing such things as calculations, data analysis, drawings/renderings, cost estimates, and preparing design plans.
  • Work on software and systems such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office products, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Work as a member of a team that coordinates with other internal teams and external subconsultants and clients.
  • Go on multiple site visits and see construction projects we work on.
  • Perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence.
