Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a civil engineering intern in its Aviation group, based in Ontario or San Diego, CA. This limited-term, full-time role begins May/June 2027 with potential part-time work after the summer.

The intern will assist engineers and surveyors on airport projects, perform design tasks, and contribute to reports and drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Travel to sites may be required; good communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Completed at least two semesters of civil engineering coursework at an accredited college or university.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D software is preferred.
• Construction field experience including observation and documentation is desirable.
• Prior internships in civil design or construction are beneficial.
• Understanding of basic grading and material testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, technicians, and surveyors with civil design of airport projects such as taxiways, runways, and aprons.
• Support airfield design tasks including grading, drainage, pavement, and geometry layouts.
• Assist in preparing drawings and plan sheets using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Perform quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and data collection for airport improvement projects.
• Support preparation of technical reports, calculations, and project documentation.
• Participate in field investigations, airport site visits, and construction observations.
• Assist engineers with FAA standards research and compliance reviews.
• Other tasks as assigned.
