Job summary

Talbert, Bright & Ellington, LLC. (TBE) seeks a Civil Engineering Designer (Aviation) to manage existing projects and lead civil design for airport projects in Wilmington, NC and Richmond, VA.

The role focuses on airside and landside design, paving, drainage, and utilities, with strong team coordination and client interaction. The candidate will perform planning, design, and scheduling of engineering work, develop specifications and bid estimates, and mentor interns as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Current Engineer Intern Certificate or licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia (or ability to obtain).
• 0-5 years of civil engineering design experience on transportation projects; aviation project experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Must be capable of effective oral and written communication; work in a team-oriented manner, and possess analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Design of Airfield projects including runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, fuel systems, and NAVAIDs.
• Design of concrete and asphalt pavements.
• Develop specifications and final design of projects.
• Develop and manage project budgets and schedules.
• Prepare preliminary and final engineering reports and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, including the FAA, state aviation officials, and other state and local regulatory agencies.
• Stormwater, erosion, and sediment control design.
• Provide assistance and develop construction cost estimates and perform quality control reviews.
• Assist with the training and developing of engineering intern staff and technicians as needed.
• Develop project phasing and scheduling.
