Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Spokane, WA seeks an AV Technician to install, test, and commission low-voltage systems including audiovisual, alarms, access control, and CCTV. You will ensure proper installation, safety, and customer satisfaction on each project.

You will read blueprints and wiring diagrams, document work orders, and travel to job sites as required. The role requires 3+ years in AV or life-safety, an EL06 license, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of AV, low voltage, or fire and life safety industry experience as apprentice or technician.
• EL06 License required.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record if driving role.
• AQSC Certification, Avixa/CTS Certification, Extron, ETCP preferred.
• Experience with commercial AV systems and integrated low-voltage platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install AV equipment (speakers, projectors, displays) and test performance.
• Perform routine maintenance and testing of AV equipment and cabling.
• Install, test, and commission alarms, access control, CCTV, and related systems.
• Manage cabling, connectivity, and system integration.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and system layouts.
• Install components according to project specifications.
• Test system functionality and compliance with codes and customer requirements.
• Troubleshoot installation issues and complete corrective actions.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment safely and efficiently.
• Complete installation documentation, work orders, and project reports.
• Communicate progress with customers, team members, and supervisors.
• Follow company safety procedures and site requirements.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

The AV Technician is responsible for performing the installation, testing, and commissioning of low voltage systems including AV, alarms, access control, CCTV, and other low-voltage systems. This role is fully functioning within core technical responsibilities and can complete standard installation jobs. The technician ensures systems are installed properly, meet customer expectations, and comply with applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Install AV equipment (e.g., speakers, projectors, displays) and testing for expected performance, perform cable pulling, termination techniques, and use best practices.
• Perform routine maintenance and testing of AV equipment and cabling.
• Perform installation, testing, and commissioning of alarms, access control systems, CCTV, and related low-voltage security systems.
• Manage cabling, connectivity, and system integration.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, system layouts, and technical manuals.
• Install system components including devices, panels, wiring, and associated hardware according to project specifications.
• Test and verify proper system functionality and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Troubleshoot installation issues and complete corrective actions in a timely and professional manner.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete installation work efficiently and safely.
• Complete installation documentation, work orders, and project reports accurately and on time.
• Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job progress and project status.
• Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in the AV, low voltage, or fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
• EL06 License required.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, if driving role.
• Strong working knowledge of AV, cabling, alarms, access control, CCTV, and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to work independently and complete standard installation jobs without direct supervision.
• AQSC Certification, Avixa/CTS Certification, Extron, ETCP preferred.
• Experience with commercial AV systems and integrated low-voltage platforms preferred.

Other Duties

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Use of hand tools and testing equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Compensation

• $46K - $100K annually DOE
