Position Summary

The AV/IT Specialist is a technical role responsible for the support, maintenance, and operational success of enterprise audiovisual systems, event technology infrastructure, and collaboration platforms. This position ensures the seamless delivery of AV experiences for meetings, events, conferences, and live productions while providing limited Tier 1 IT support and technical assistance to the Information Technology team as needed. This role operates at the intersection of AV systems engineering, live event production, and technical support. The ideal candidate is highly technical, calm under pressure, and comfortable working in fast‑paced environments where downtime is not an option.

What You’ll Do

Audiovisual (AV) & Event Infrastructure Support

  • Support the design, setup, configuration, testing, operation, and maintenance of AV systems for meetings, corporate events, conferences, and live productions.
  • Provide technical support across conference rooms, client‑facing spaces, stadium and event venues, production facilities, and outdoor event environments.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot microphones, DSP systems, speakers, amplifiers, video displays, projectors, LED walls, presentation systems, and video conferencing platforms.
  • Support audio consoles, stage patching, signal routing, and audio system optimization for live events.
  • Assist with livestreaming, hybrid events, and broadcast‑style productions, including encoding, streaming, recording, and content distribution workflows.
  • Perform event setup, system testing, live operational support, strike, and teardown activities.
  • Maintain AV infrastructure, including equipment racks, cabling standards, inventory management, labeling, and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve real‑time AV issues during live events, executive meetings, and mission‑critical productions.
  • Collaborate with vendors, event staff, production teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.
  • Follow established AV engineering standards, best practices, deployment procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Support the configuration, deployment, and operation of collaboration platforms including Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and related technologies.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance, firmware updates, system health monitoring, and lifecycle planning of AV equipment and infrastructure.

Information Technology (IT) Support Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1 IT support for end users across desktop, laptop, and mobile environments.
  • Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 services including email, shared mailboxes, licensing, account access, and collaboration tools.
  • Support user onboarding and off‑boarding activities, including account provisioning, workstation setup, and access management.
  • Assist with password resets, multifactor authentication (MFA) issues, and identity/access management requests.
  • Provide support for Windows and macOS environments, including software installation, updates, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist with network connectivity issues, including Wi‑Fi access, IP addressing, and basic LAN troubleshooting.
  • Support printers, peripherals, and workstation hardware troubleshooting.
  • Assist with support and maintenance of collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and related platforms.
  • Support basic networking tasks including patching, switch port troubleshooting, IP‑based device identification, and endpoint connectivity verification.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and supporting networked AV systems, including basic understanding of multicast traffic, IGMP snooping, VLANs, and AV‑over‑IP deployments.
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and support activities, escalating complex issues to senior IT staff as appropriate.

Requirements
Work Schedule and Availability
  • The standard schedule is Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
  • This role requires significant flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
  • Like almost all NWSS team members, this position will need to be on‑site every day during Stock Show, typically for 12-16 hours at a time.
  • Extended hours may be required during peak event seasons, annual events, conferences, and production periods.
  • Must be available for on‑call or rapid response support during live events and critical system operations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Some experience supporting enterprise AV systems, live event production environments, corporate conferencing technologies, or a combination thereof.
  • Strong understanding of audiovisual systems, signal flow, troubleshooting methodologies, and live event production workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and end‑user support.
  • Familiarity with Windows and macOS operating systems and desktop support.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking, including DNS, DHCP, VLAN concepts, IP addressing, IGMP snooping, multicast traffic management, and AV‑over‑IP network fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting live events, corporate AV environments, conference centers, stadiums, or broadcast‑style productions.
  • Ability to lift, move, install, and transport technical equipment, including speakers, displays, equipment racks, cases, and staging equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in high‑pressure, real‑time environments.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff, vendors, clients, and executive leadership.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with AV control and DSP systems such as Q‑SYS, Biamp, or similar platforms.
  • Q‑SYS Level 1 Certification or equivalent DSP/control system training.
  • Experience with Dante audio networking and digital audio routing.
  • Familiarity with livestream production workflows, encoding platforms, and hybrid event technologies.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms environments.
  • Experience with managed network switches, AV‑over‑IP technologies, multicast networking, IGMP snooping, and network infrastructure supporting Dante, Q‑SYS, NDI, or similar AV transport protocols.
  • Prior experience in enterprise IT, technical support, or corporate service desk environments.
  • Experience working in large venues, stadiums, arenas, convention centers, or high‑volume event environments.
  • Strong customer service skills with executive‑level and client‑facing interactions.
  • Ability to read and interpret system diagrams, rack elevations, signal flow drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with endpoint management tools such as Intune, SCCM, or similar solutions
Nice‑to‑Have Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent.
  • CTS or CTS‑I certification through AVIXA.
  • Experience with digital signage systems and content management platforms.
  • Experience with broadcast or streaming platforms such as vMix, OBS, Wirecast, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools, including basic PowerShell knowledge.
  • Experience supporting hybrid enterprise environments where AV and IT technologies converge.
  • Project coordination, deployment leadership, or technical lead experience for AV system implementations or event productions.
Working Conditions

This position operates in a dynamic, multi‑environment setting that includes offices, conference spaces, production venues, indoor and outdoor event facilities, and public‑facing event environments.

Work may occur in environments that include:

  • High‑energy live event spaces with large crowds.
  • Elevated noise levels, theatrical lighting, staging equipment, and production systems.
  • Dust, equipment transport zones, warehouses, or temporary staging areas.
  • Indoor and outdoor environments subject to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.

The role requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, assembling, installing, and transporting technical equipment. Flexibility, adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to remain composed in fast‑paced live production environments are essential for success.

Compensation & Benefits
  • This is a full‑time salaried/exempt position with compensation for the position ranging from $65,000.00 to $85,000.00 (depending on experience and education)
