MEAG is a cutting-edge power generation facility featuring two GE 7FA gas turbines and one GE D11 steam turbine, delivering a robust 503 MW of electricity to the grid. Fueled exclusively by natural gas, the plant exhibits remarkable flexibility, cycling daily to meet changing energy demands, particularly during the summer peak season, ensuring a reliable and resilient power supply.

Opportunity Summary

The Auxiliary Operator is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and maintenance of plant equipment, ensuring safe and efficient plant performance. This role involves monitoring system data, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating with team members to troubleshoot issues, all while maintaining a safe work environment. The Auxiliary Operator will also be tasked with ensuring compliance with safety protocols, managing logs, and assisting in the ordering and inventory of materials necessary for plant operations.

Primary Functions

  • Maintain accurate documentation of shift operations and maintenance activities.
  • Observe and record equipment and system data throughout the facility.
  • Monitor instrumentation readings for deviations from prescribed operating standards and procedures.
  • Perform unloading of chemicals and materials as required.
  • Configure system alignment for equipment start-up, shutdown, and casualty control following plant operating procedures. This includes tasks such as opening and closing valves, adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments, and securing equipment under Lockout/Tagout protocols for maintenance.
  • Conduct visual inspections and listen to equipment at scheduled intervals to identify malfunctions or requirements for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Perform chemical analysis on various plant systems to maintain required water purity and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Record plant conditions, activities, and relevant information in the operators’ logbook during each shift.
  • Report unsafe conditions or hazards to the Operations Manager and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Operate plant equipment, including trucks and forklifts.
  • Prepare clear and detailed work or purchase requests for predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance needs.
  • Assist maintenance technicians in troubleshooting, repairing, and testing equipment as directed by Plant Management or the Lead Operator.
  • Support operations and maintenance by performing tasks related to ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, inspecting, and distributing materials, supplies, tools, and parts.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to all environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Issue work permits and oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance with site protocols.
  • Control visitor and contractor access to the site and maintain overall site security.
  • Use digital platforms such as Maximo, Gensuite, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical manuals to execute preventive maintenance, inspections, and other operational tasks.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and malfunctions of plant equipment and systems, implementing corrective measures as outlined in SOPs or as directed by the Lead Operator or Plant Management.
  • Operate all plant equipment and systems as required or instructed.
  • Perform routine predictive, preventive, and basic corrective maintenance in accordance with technical manuals and procedural guidelines.
  • Participation in the Facility Confined Space Rescue Team is required.

Working Relationships

Reports to the Operations Manager, follows direction from the Lead Control Room Operator, and collaborates with all plant personnel to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of the facility.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, routinely lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in confined spaces. Protective equipment must be worn during certain tasks, such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment. Work with hazardous materials may be required, and the ability to wear various types of respirators is essential. Extensive smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The regular work shift for this position follows the DuPont schedule, providing a rotating pattern of 12-hour shifts that includes both day and night shifts over a four-week cycle. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on operating schedules, workload, plant conditions, and shift coverage needs. It may also involve covering shifts with little to no advance notice.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $30.19 to $42.36 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus up to 10%.

Job Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, providing the ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the assigned area. An Associate's Degree in a technical field is highly desirable.
  • Background in power plant operations and maintenance, including safety and environmental procedures and compliance, water treatment processes and analysis, steam cycle theory, thermodynamics, generator/electrical theory, and routine plant maintenance. Combined Cycle plant experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of piping and instrument diagrams, process controls, and instrumentation and control systems, including calibration, troubleshooting, and basic programming of process control devices.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance and operations management software, such as Maximo and Gensuite, along with SCADA systems or equivalent platforms for data monitoring, analysis, and task management.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols, hazard identification, and compliance with OSHA or similar safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills to effectively manage tasks and collaborate with team members.
  • Strong aptitude for math, along with mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Capacity to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, with a self-directed approach.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license and maintain it in good standing at all times.
