Job summary

Shield AI, in the Washington, DC area, seeks a hands-on engineer to design, implement, and maintain HIL test infrastructure for mission autonomy and vision systems. You will work with engineers and technicians to ensure robust hardware/software integration.

You will develop and execute HIL/SIL/VIL test plans, build Python tools for automation, diagnose issues from logs, and document configurations for repeatable lab and field validation across systems and assets.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline; or a Master’s degree without experience.
• Hands-on experience integrating and testing hardware and software in robotics, small UAS, avionics, vision systems, or related engineering projects.
• Proficiency in Python for test automation, system utilities, or data analysis.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, build, and maintain HIL test infrastructure for mission autonomy and vision systems, including electrical integration, mechanical fixtures, and sensor interfaces.
• Create integration, regression, and system test plans for Hivemind mission autonomy software in HIL, SIL, and VIL environments.
• Build Python tools and automated test utilities for test execution and data analysis across hardware and simulation environments.
• Develop and execute HIL tests for vision systems to validate imaging, onboard processing, and detection capabilities.
• Identify, reproduce, and diagnose failures using test data and logs; collaborate with engineering to verify fixes.
• Improve test fixtures, automation, and coverage; document configurations and results.
• Install, integrate, and perform functional checkout of vision systems and sensors on test assets and aircraft.
• Load, configure, and validate software and firmware releases; maintain accurate records for reproducibility.
• Troubleshoot interfaces using wiring diagrams, logs, and test equipment; perform basic wiring work under procedures.
• Support ground and flight tests, customer demonstrations, and field evaluations; communicate findings to teams.
