Job summary

Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. in Newport News, VA seeks an Autonomy Systems Engineer to design, develop and validate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for large mining haul trucks and autonomous variants.

You will work on Level 1–4 responsibilities, perform Matlab/Simulink modeling, create schematics, estimate time and cost, and mentor junior engineers. Travel up to 15% is possible; join a global leader in mining equipment.

Qualifications

• Master of Science or BS in engineering with 10 years of electrical experience.
• MS with 1 year or BS with 2 years of relevant electrical experience.
• MS with 4–6 years or BS with 6–8 years of relevant electrical experience.
• MS with 6–8 years or BS with 8–10 years of relevant electrical experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electro‑mechanical systems for haul trucks and autonomous variants.
• Performs system calculations and/or simulations.
• Creates schematic representations of systems.
• Interfaces with other disciplines to outline control system logic.
• Writes software and/or uses model based design to develop modules.
• Develops detailed test requests to initiate component and system testing.
• Works independently and in teams on various projects.
• Participates in the Engineering Development Program.
• Research electric and hydraulic components for control systems.
• Estimate time and cost for development and serial production.
• Research and analyzes customer designs and specifications.
• Confer with engineers to develop procedures and resolve malfunctions.
• Train and mentor engineers.
• Review and approve designs for conformance.
