Job summary

FieldAI's Irvine team builds risk-aware, field-ready autonomous systems for real robots and deployments. As a Principal Robotics Engineer, you will set technical direction across the autonomy stack and own the hardest engineering problems, spanning perception, localization, planning, and control on legged and wheeled platforms.

This is a technical leadership role focused on architecture, interfaces, and cross-team influence rather than people management.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Robotics, CS, EE, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in production robotics/autonomy software with principal/staff impact.
• Expertise in C++ and Python, ROS/ROS2, Linux, Git.

Responsibilities

• Lead autonomy stack development across perception, localization, planning, and control.
• Define stable APIs and ensure production-quality software with testing and reviews.
• Mentor senior staff, review designs, and grow technical depth without people management.
