Job summary

Perrone Robotics, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer for Autonomous Vehicle Systems in Charlottesville, VA. You will own core autonomy software across our TONY AV Kit platform, including vehicle control, safety interlocks, perception integration, and route/mapping logic.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Java and/or C++ (or comparable systems languages) for real-time or near-real-time control software.
• Experience with production software deployment and release management practices.
• Comfortable reading and diagnosing issues from detailed system logs and field data.
• Excellent cross-functional communication with hardware, QA, and operators.
• Able to travel 10% for field deployments and testing.

Responsibilities

• Safety-critical control software: design, implement, and review safety interlock and watchdog logic for the vehicle control stack across hardware platforms.
• Vehicle dynamics tuning: tune speed control, braking, and steering PID loops for smooth, predictable behavior.
• Perception and sensor integration: integrate LiDAR, RADAR, GPS/INS, parse NMEA/GNSS, diagnose sensor issues.
• Field defect diagnosis: analyze logs from deployed vehicles to root-cause issues and drive fixes with field/hardware teams.
• New platform provisioning: configure and deploy software stack onto new vehicle platforms and support simulation environments.
• Software deployment and production support: own release/configuration management and coordinate fixes with the engineering team.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with hardware/field engineers to reproduce issues and translate feedback into engineering requirements.
