Job summary

Actalent in Frederick, MD is seeking a Software Engineer – Autonomy & Embedded Systems to design and implement autonomy software for ADAS and unmanned systems on embedded platforms. You will work primarily in C++ on motion planning, computer vision, sensor processing, and inter-process messaging, with deployment on real machines in the field.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, collaboration with a skilled team, and on-machine debugging across devices like boom lifts and telehandlers.

Qualifications

• High-quality, maintainable C++ code (≈ 99% in C++).
• Embedded systems experience on embedded platforms.
• Autonomy experience with perception and path planning as core components.
• Experience building autonomy systems from scratch or integrating into products.
• Familiar with ROS or autonomy frameworks.
• Strong documentation skills for design and tests.
• Ability to work with a technically capable team and field tests.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate software architecture for autonomy systems on embedded platforms.
• Perform engineering tasks and hardware selection aligned with standards under supervision.
• Develop and integrate autonomy software into products like lifts and telehandlers.
• Build or improve autonomy capabilities such as perception and path planning.
• Write unit tests, regression tests, and participate in field tests on machines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet specifications and deliver designs.
• Create clear requirements, design docs, and technical specifications.
