Job summary

FieldAI in Irvine, CA is seeking a seasoned data/backend engineer to design and build the data platform and ingestion frameworks that power our robotics data ecosystem.

You will tackle intermittent connectivity, large sensor payloads, and edge-to-cloud synchronization, while developing reusable SDKs, APIs, and services for onboarding new data sources.

Collaborate across teams to integrate with BI, ML pipelines, labeling systems, and CDC/ELT tooling, ensuring reliability and scalable operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 3–5+ years of experience in data or backend engineering.
• Strong programming in Python and SQL.
• Experience with streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub) and orchestration tools (Airflow or Dagster).
• Experience with modern warehouses/lakehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift) and cloud storage at scale.
• Experience building integrations across systems and CDC/ELT tooling (Fivetran, Airbyte, Debezium).
• Experience in data quality: testing, monitoring, lineage, incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the data platform, frameworks, and tooling for ingestion across FieldAI.
• Handle field data realities: intermittent connectivity, large sensor payloads, edge-to-cloud sync, backfills.
• Develop reusable ingestion SDKs, APIs, and services for onboarding new robotics data sources.
• Build and maintain integrations across heterogeneous sources and cloud storage.
• Integrate the platform with downstream consumers: BI, ML pipelines, labeling systems, issue tracking.
• Develop connectors and APIs (REST/gRPC, webhooks, CDC) for reliable data feeds.
• Own integration reliability end-to-end: schema contracts, versioning, retries, backfills, monitoring.
• Optimize pipeline performance, scalability, and cost for growing fleet deployments.
