Job summary

Wayve in Leonberg, Germany is seeking a Data Engineer in the Machine Learning team. You’ll design and deliver scalable data pipelines that transform large-scale real-world and synthetic datasets into structured, model-ready formats for autonomous driving research.

You’ll collaborate with Data Corpus, ML engineers, and external partners to ensure reliability, quality checks, and smooth production integration. The role offers a hybrid office/home setup with core hours.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building and operating scalable data pipelines in production environments.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python with maintainable, reliable, and well-tested code.
• Proficient in SQL and PySpark, with experience using warehouse/OLAP concepts and Spark for distributed processing.
• Experience with DAG-based systems such as Airflow, Flyte, Ray, or similar.
• Solid understanding of robotics and automated driving data concepts (sensor characteristics, timestamping, coordinate transformations, calibration, ego-motion signals).
• Understanding of machine learning development workflows (training data generation, evaluation datasets, scenario mining, model iteration).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve scalable data pipelines that support model development, evaluation, and production ML workflows for autonomous driving.
• Ingest, transform, and curate large-scale real-world, synthetic, and partner-provided datasets into structured, reliable, and model-ready formats.
• Develop data quality checks, validation processes, and monitoring for data from vehicle platforms and processed datasets.
• Curate and mine real-world and synthetic data to drive scenario diversity, coverage, and feature development.
• Improve pipeline performance, reliability, and usability to increase iteration velocity across ML development.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, Data Corpus, AI Platform, and external partners to ensure pipelines integrate with production-scale learning systems.
