Job summary

AdAstra Talent Advisors is helping a defense-tech startup in the Los Angeles area locate the first dedicated autonomy engineer to architect and own the autonomy and perception stack. The role is hands-on and requires delivering a working autonomous system within 90 days, leveraging OpenCV, YOLO and other open-source tools as appropriate.

You will work with senior leaders from defense and AI domains, shape the system architecture, and guide a growing autonomy team as the program moves toward

Qualifications

• Hands-on autonomy experience building systems from scratch
• Production-quality code in a systems language
• Comfort designing and writing architecture glue
• Willingness to support field tests and trials

Responsibilities

• Own requirements, architecture and hard tradeoffs for autonomy stack
• Develop production autonomy software within hardware constraints
• Model training and deployment for perception systems
• Create simulation, replay, SIL and HIL environments for testing
• Select sensors and design sensing architecture with avionics/embedded software
• Lead field tests, sea trials and post-test root-cause analysis
• Mentor new autonomy engineers joining the team
