Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Team Leader (Section Supervisor) in the Embedded Applications group to mentor and guide software engineers on AI/ML for autonomous spacecraft. You will help shape technical strategy, supervise staff, and contribute as a technical leader in embedded flight software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of experience in algorithm development and analysis, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and controls software engineering.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and leadership characteristics, including the ability to communicate system-level solutions.
  • Expertise in AI/ML algorithms including neural networks, symbolic regression, and ensemble methods.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and TS/SCI clearance eventually; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to group technical strategy and management, including hiring panels and policy compliance.
  • Serve as AI/ML domain authority and project technical leader for the team.
  • Lead research and development of AI/ML algorithms for autonomous spacecraft within embedded systems.
  • Collaborate across the Laboratory to advance autonomous technologies including fault protection and space networking.
  • Review software processes, perform quality reviews, and oversee publications and staff presentations.
  • Recruit, train, and retain engineers while promoting career development and engagement.
