Job summary

Teledyne FLIR is seeking an engineering professional in Orem, UT, to perform drone developmental testing. You will conduct complex UAV test flights, coordinate with autonomy and program leadership, and ensure safe, actionable flight data informs design improvements.

The role requires strong flight knowledge, experience with Pixhawk stacks, and the ability to commute to Orem daily for onsite work.

Qualifications

• BS in ME, EE, CE or similar field or equivalent engineering experience.
• FAA Part 107 qualification or equivalent piloting preferred.
• Familiar with programming and software development methods.
• 5+ years UAV flight experience with safe autonomous operations.
• 2+ years supporting UAS R&D (DOD, academia, commercial).

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and log complex test flights for UAV platforms in early-stage development.
• Conduct pre-flight risk assessments, test card reviews, range safety coordination, and airworthiness validation.
• Serve as PIC or safety pilot for autonomous missions with in-flight decision authority.
• Collaborate with engineering to develop test plans validating sensors and airframes.
• Translate pilot feedback into system updates (control algorithms, tuning, mission execution).
• Capture flight data and provide debriefs and design feedback to avionics and autonomy teams.
• Lead tuning, troubleshooting, and Pixhawk-based platform integration.
• Manage payload integration, telemetry, and remote GCS operation.
• Utilize Mission Planner, QGroundControl, and custom GCS interfaces.
