Job summary

Saronic Technologies in the United States seeks a Structural Build Engineer to support design, analysis, and construction of autonomous surface vessels. This role oversees structural fabrication, assembly, and issue resolution at the shipyard, interfacing with design teams in Austin.

Your work includes CAD modeling, CAD/CAM coordination, and cross-functional collaboration with engineers, welders, and QA to ensure compliance with ABS and marine standards in a defense-oriented innovation setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Structural Engineering.
• Familiarity with ABS structural rules, AWS welding standards, and US Coast Guard regulations.
• Strong fundamentals in structural engineering: statics, strength of materials, marine structures, and ship design.
• Experience in a shipyard, fabrication shop, or marine construction with focus on structural work.
• Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, Rhino, AutoCAD).
• Experience with cutfile generation, nesting software, and CNC cutting processes.
• Understanding of welding, NDT, materials, and marine-grade materials.
• Experience with structural analysis, FEA, or computational tools.
• Knowledge of ship structural design principles including longitudinal strength and foundation design.
• Strong cross-disciplinary communication across engineers, welders, fabricators, and leadership.
• Comfortable in an industrial shipyard environment with fabrication exposure.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, analysis, and fabrication of ship structural components including main hull, bulkheads, decks, foundations, framing, and cutfile generation for CNC cutting.
• Collaborate with engineering teams for CAD modeling, analysis, and system optimization.
• Coordinate between engineering, drafting, and production to resolve technical challenges during construction.
• Lead ECOs—traceability, communication, implementation, verification.
• Support integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input on system architecture and performance.
• Manage documentation including drawings, specifications, test procedures, and as-built records.
• Oversee fabrication processes including welding, machining, assembly, and fit-up.
• Perform dimensional inspections and verification of welded joints.
