Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking an early-career Subsea Robotics Engineer in Maryland to join our Modeling and Control team. The role focuses on developing software for autonomous underwater vehicles and other subsea robotic systems.

You will develop ROS 2 robotics software in C++ and Python on Linux, implement dynamics and controls, build simulations, and integrate sensors for robust underwater robotics applications in field experiments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Robotics, Mech Eng, EE, CS, or related field.
  • Experience building robotics software with ROS 2.
  • Experience software on Linux.
  • Proficient in Python and C++.
  • Familiar with version control, debugging, testing, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robotics software for AUVs/ROVs and other subsea systems using ROS 2.
  • Design, implement, and maintain modular software in C++ and Python on Linux.
  • Develop and integrate dynamics, controls, guidance, navigation, and autonomy algorithms.
  • Build high-fidelity simulation environments and modeling tools for development and mission planning.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, and subsystems into robust software architectures.
  • Evaluate vehicle performance via simulation, lab testing, and field experiments.
