Job summary

Atoms in San Francisco is seeking a Director of Vehicle Integration to lead the team that validates autonomous vehicle platforms via hardware‑in‑the‑loop, bench validation, and field bring‑up. You will mentor senior engineers and technicians, ensuring modular, scalable interfaces and reliable testability.

The role is onsite five days a week in San Francisco, requiring 10+ years in vehicle integration and L3/L4 autonomous driving experience, plus a proven ability to deliver repeatable bring‑up

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Robotics or related field; 10+ years experience with 5+ leading engineers.
• Ownership of vehicle integration from architecture through fleet deployment with accountability for installation, validation and support on the road.
• Hands-on depth in vehicle networks (CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet); drive-by-wire and actuation integration; electrical/harness architecture; embedded compute and sensor integration; hardware-in-the-loop validation.

Responsibilities

• Own hardware-in-the-loop and bench validation to validate software releases against real vehicle interfaces; build modular harnesses and logging paths.
• Own autonomy integration on the development fleet: electrical architecture, harnesses, sensor and compute placement, power and drive-by-wire interfaces; manage fault handling and degraded-mode behavior.
• Own build instructions, drawings, calibration procedures, and production scripts for vehicle bring-up and commissioning; ensure this becomes a repeatable gate.
• Collaborate with robotics release interfaces, vehicle operations on availability, hardware engineering and manufacturing on build/retrofit, and OEM/supplier partners.
